At Book Bums, we’re passionate about equipping kids to read and spell well, but beyond passion, you should know that we’ve been consistently delivering science-driven instruction for more than 20 years. That means we’ve been doing the “science of reading” thing since long before “science of reading” was a thing. When making curricular decisions while teaching beginning and struggling readers, we pushed (and continue to push) against common practices of the day and lean wholly into research-proven methodologies. We provide instruction grounded in reading and teaching science. Dr. Christina Williams (Dr. Christy) opened the first Book Bums location with a desire to equip and inspire parents to become their children’s first (and best!) teachers. Over the years, to expand her reach, Dr. Christy began serving families through one-on-one tutoring and has been extending beyond one-on-one tutoring by leading Summer School programming for the Lakota School District, as well as serving underserved families alongside a non-profit organization called The Faith Alliance, and by sharing the Foundations for Literacy curricular resources with educators across the US and beyond. Dr. Christy has invested in building online resources to make it easy (and even FUN!) for educators to move their students from struggling to soaring—and fast!
