W-h is “officially” a digraph, but the sound those letters represent is evolving. You’ll teach your students that, today, w-h represents either the sound /w/ (usually) or /h/ (rarely). In these lessons, you’ll spotlight the question words and eliminate confusion around the words who and how. You’ll also share that the letter y can “act like” a vowel. When it does, it can say /eye/ (at the ends of really short words), /ee/ (at the ends of longer words), and (rarely) /i/ (within words). You’ll also teach them that y can “do magic.”
