Description
Using the Foundations for Literacy progression, your students have already learned that vowels can say their names (open vowels- FFL 1.4 & Magic e- FFL 2.1). Now you’re going to teach them another way vowels can say their names. It works a lot like a Magic e. A vowel “jumps back” and tells the preceding vowel to say its name, and (like the Magic e), the second vowel doesn’t make a sound at all. When teaching these lessons, you’ll do the motions and say, “When we have two vowels together, the first one says its name.” Using inductive reasoning, your students will discover which vowel is likely making the first one say its name. Fun!
